On the southern shore of Big Bear Lake, Calif., the Thundercloud Resort offers visitors a vacation where clean air and winter or summer sports abound. Forest Shores Inn Lakefront
 

Location. Resting high in the San Bernardino Mountains, the Forest Shores Inn is a peaceful lakefront retreat for leisure vacationers who are drawn to California's magical Big Bear Lake. The hotel is one mile from Snow Summit skiing and only steps from the Bavarian Village, where travelers will find shopping, fine dining and evening entertainment. Located 15 miles from Big Bear Airport, the Forest Shores Inn successfully blends luxury with a rustic mountain aesthetic. Hotel Features. Although the Forest Shores Inn condominium lodging concept that focuses on individual comforts and a heightened guestroom experience, this lakefront hotel features many shared amenities. While a seasonal outdoor pool and spa tub provide on site recreation, horseback-riding, mountain hiking, fishing, and other lake activities are available just outside the hotel doors. Fireside Lodge
 

The Fireside Lodge is centrally located within walking distance from the shops, restaurants, and theaters of the village as well as the two major marinas on Big Bear Lake. With all the warmth of a Bed and Breakfast, the Lodge offers modern conveniences such as multiple bathroom and kitchens with microwaves. Motel rooms and Chalets are perfect for that weekend getaway and offer a cozy, comfortable setting. Fireside Lodge opened its doors December, 1946. It originally had eight one and two bedroom brick cottages with weeping mortar. Over the years, it had other units added. In 1992, it was completely rebuilt after the earthquake in Big Bear. It now has grown to 32 units. Motel rooms, one and two bedroom suites, and spa suites replaced the original architecture. They all have character, whether it's one of the basic rooms or one of the more romantic rooms with a gas log fireplace and a little refrigerator. The hotel is minutes to dining, shopping and entertainment venues.

Northwoods Resort & Conference
 

Location. The Northwoods Resort Conference Center, located across the street from Big Bear Village, Calif., is within a three-mile radius of alpine thrills at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain recreational areas. Big Bear Performing Arts Center and Moonridge Animal Park and Zoo are also three miles away. The Bear Mountain Golf Course lies four miles from the resort. Hotel Features. This rustic property draws the great outdoors inside with hunting-lodge décor, wildlife-themed furniture pieces and a rugged stone fireplace. A small outdoor splash pool and an expansive spa tub are available for use throughout the year. An indoor sauna is also on site. Stillwells, the hotel's lodge-style restaurant, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner that includes nightly steak and seafood specials. Cocktails are offered by the fireside and in the adjacent lounge. Bike and ski rentals are available in the gift shop, which also sells clothing and food items. The hotel also features an on-site fitness center and 9,000 square feet of meeting and event space equipped with high-speed Internet access. Wireless Internet access is available in the lobby. Guestrooms. The three-story Northwoods Resort and Conference Center has 148 lodge-style guestrooms with bark furniture and wildlife-patterned fabrics. Amenities include television with premium channels, coffeemakers and dial-up Internet access. Selected accommodations feature fireplaces and balconies. Refrigerators are available upon request. Expert Tip. Outdoor enthusiasts can venture to Big Bear Lake, where jet skiing, motor boating, parasailing and sailing are the activities du jour. One mile away, Meadow Park provides a children's playground and a sand volleyball court.

Lagonita Lodge
 

The Lagonita Lodge (Calif.) is nestled among the pines in the San Bernardino National Forest amidst the cool tranquility of Big Bear Lake and near the popular Snow Summit and Bear Mountain ski resorts. Outdoor lovers and other travelers are near the village's picturesque streets lined with boutiques, unique shops, galleries and restaurants, and within strolling distance of fishing, skiing, boating and windsurfing. Guests can enjoy the Lagonita's indoor heated pool and spa, outdoor spa for adults, fitness center, recreation rooms, lobby fireplace, Internet access, and evening wine and cheese receptions. The Robinhood Resort is located one block from Pine Knot Marina, one mile from Snow Summit Ski Resort and four miles from Discovery Center. In the lobby eating area, enjoy the complimentary continental breakfast on weekends and holiday mornings or grab a cup of coffee, tea, cider, or cocoa anytime the lobby's open. The Sherwood Banquet Room has a lake view, and accommodates guests up to 120 people.
